transforming the periphery through plants.

Working with the PTA at PS 261, Nature Based transformed an unsightly muddy mess of an area into a micro-hike wildspace for the students to enjoy. This high traffic wildspace surrounds the playground in the schoolyard. It is planted with only native wildflowers, grasses, and ferns. This project continues our passion for activating underutilized areas of school yards in NYC. We are working with the PTA to help keep this project growing despite the prolific use of the space.

“Fred has been working with PS 261 for the past year and a half and has converted the perimeter of our playground into a beautiful native plant garden. Our students love being a part of sowing and caring for this space, which has become an outdoor classroom. We are excited to continue adding elements to the garden that increase the opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning.”
